Avoid the Blue and Yellow 4s

This morning, the Pasadena Fire Department taught the first module of a PERT (Pasadena Emergency Response Training) class in a room at the Harambee Ministries. Among things I learned was how to interpret this placard when you see it on the side of a building. You’ll see it with a number from 1 to 4 in each of the colored diamonds and usually an abbreviation in the white diamond. It’s called an NFPA 704 Diamond placard.

Also, if you touch a downed power line, you will die. If one falls on your car, stay in the car until the power company arrives and shuts off the power. If you get out of the car before that, you will die. Don’t let any one else try to get you out of the car, or they will die.

While I was there, a co-pupil Jim Zobrist with whom I got acquainted, passed out flyers inviting us to attend the Altadena Baptist Church tomorrow evening for its 20th Annual Black History Celebration, including a Soul Food Dinner at 6:00 p.m. Unfortunately, I’ve got the ward youth coming over here at 7:00 p.m. after stake conference for a fireside featuring Elder Patrick Cassidy, newly returned from the Maryland Baltimore Mission.

    Correction:
You will die UNLESS you *jump* from your car to the ground, without touching the car and the ground at the same time. I learned that in elementary school during out emergency bus drills or something.

And yum, soul food. I say you go to that just long enough to grab some food in a doggie bag. BYU is celebrating Black History Month, too. The theme is "A Light in the Darkness." I'll let you figure that one out.

"A Light in the Darkness"? Sounds racist to me. The part about getting electrocuted made me laugh Dad. I am a bit tired though. Oh, and I don't like the way we post comments to your blog. Having to fill in the characters each time. Plus, it is so SLOW!!! Of course, that could just be because I am on DIAL-UP!!!
