It stands in front of the Nauvoo Temple with the Mississippi River in the distance.  I photographed the statute on the rainy morning of October 24, 2008, just before Carla and I left Nauvoo with Ginger and Elliott and their children. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><span class='imgcenter'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" alt='' src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.myopera.com\/riggsappeal\/albums\/631784\/thumbs\/IMG_0429.jpg_thumb.jpg?w=600\" \/><\/span> <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">The Nauvoo Temple rises on a hill overlooking the River.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class='imgleft'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" alt='' src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.myopera.com\/riggsappeal\/albums\/631784\/thumbs\/1IMG_0432.jpg_thumb.jpg?w=600\" \/><\/span> The tower, topped by the Angel Moroni, has four clocks facing outward.  The sunstones are prominent features on all sides.<\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" alt='' src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.myopera.com\/riggsappeal\/albums\/631784\/thumbs\/IMG_0426.jpg_thumb.jpg?w=600\" \/><\/span> <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">This sunstone sat outside our window in the inn at Zion&#39;s Mercantile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" alt='' src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.myopera.com\/riggsappeal\/albums\/631784\/thumbs\/IMG_0433.jpg_thumb.jpg?w=600\" \/><\/span> <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">The inn sits diagonally across the corner from the temple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" alt='' src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.myopera.com\/riggsappeal\/albums\/631784\/thumbs\/IMG_0439.jpg_thumb.jpg?w=600\" \/><\/span> <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">While Carla and Ginger were shopping, I found this horse grazing in downtown Nauvoo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class='imgcenter'><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" alt='' src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/files.myopera.com\/riggsappeal\/albums\/631784\/thumbs\/IMG_0415.jpg_thumb.jpg?w=600\" \/><\/span> <br \/><span class=\"aligncenter\">Ethan and Emma enjoyed the rain.  This horse in Old Nauvoo too temporary shelter beneath a tree, but shortly after went cavorting with some nearby friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Driving from Indiana into Illinois to Nauvoo, we detoured into Galesburg to have dinner at the Packinghouse Restaurant.
