So that we could attend Milo’s baptism, Carla and I took a non-stop Southwest Airlines flight from Burbank to Salt Lake City on May 4. At the airport, we got a big SUV as our Enterprise rental. To get the cheapest rate, I had left the choice up to Enterprise and so was surprised at our assigned automobile, because SUVs are normally expensive rentals. We again stayed at the North Orem La Quinta Inn.
After our arrival, we were able to see Elizabeth’s new Provo town home, played Settlers of Cataan with her and Cleo and Taylor, and all went to dinner at the Provo Tucanos. Carla did some department store shopping, and we finished the evening going into downtown Provo to see the now-open Provo City Center Temple.
While there, we crossed the street for some evening ice-cream refreshment at the SubZero Soda Lab.
Friday morning, we met up with Elizabeth, Cleo, and Taylor at the new cinema complex in Vineyard to watch Guardians of the Galaxy, Part 2, on its opening day. After the movie, Elizabeth had to prepare for a ward social she was in charge of; and we went with Cleo and Taylor to see their new town home in Spanish Fork. We also went to lunch with them at Malawi’s Pizza near their place. Carla and I then did some shopping at the University Mall—where the local Tucanos will soon relocate—and took some Five Guys hamburgers back to the motel for our evening meal.
Milo’s baptism was Saturday morning at the Orem Stake Center. Larry performed the baptism, and I voiced the confirmation. We missed Elizabeth; she had taken sick after her ward social.
Family there for Milo posed for a group photo outside the ward building.
The group of us then went to John and Jenny’s home for a nice dinner together that included Jenny’s stuffed shells and a large cake that Mindy bought. It was good to visit once again with Jenny’s folks. We gave Milo the blue and white tie that we bought the day before at the mall.
Later that day, Carla and I went to Smith’s and bought Elizabeth a watermelon she wanted. We took it to her home, where we watched the British Cooking Show with her. She was feeling a bit better.
Sunday morning, Carla and I did some sight-seeing, mostly around Utah Lake; it was a pretty day.
That afternoon, we went to Sunday services at the Orem 1st Ward, where the bishop introduced Milo as the newest ward member and had Milo bear his testimony, which he did exceedingly well. It was fast Sunday, and at the first opportunity, Milo, Jonah, and Ruby went up to the stand and also bore testimonies. After the sacrament service, Larry and Joyce left to drive back to Idaho. Carla and I stayed for the block. I enjoyed the Sunday School class and the high-priests-group meeting.
After church, we went over to John’s house again, enjoyed the leftovers from Saturday’s dinner, played games—including chess and Dominion, and visited.
The next day, Carla and I checked out of La Quinta early and drove back to the airport to catch our 8:15 a.m. flight home. We were happy that we were able to be a part of Milo’s baptism and share time with family.
