Happy birthday to Charles and Emily

Birthday honorees

Charles and Laura celebrated his birthday last night, going out to dinner at the Himalayan Cafe in Old Pasadena. Carla and I watched Ella and William. They all stayed the night here, and we watched the kids again while Charles and Ella took in a morning temple session. Ella and I played Carcassone, and she’s picked it up well.

But for today, Joseph, Lyle, and Judy with her children joined us after we ordered three slabs of ribs and a cut-up chicken that James and I picked up fromĀ Bonnie B’s Smokin’ BBQ Heaven. We celebrated Emily’s upcoming birthday with Charles’s. For dinner side dishes, Laura prepared a melon, berry, and peach cocktail; a leafy, berry, and feta salad; and the potato-and-cheese casserole we all like. Judy brought a chocolate cake, and Laura brought a 4-layer spongy lemon cake which she frosted with strawberry frosting and then rolled in colorful sprinkles.

It’s hard to believe that our twins have reached this age:

Joseph brought overĀ Teen Titans, a new version of the DC card-building game that the men enjoyed while the woman worked in the kitchen. After dinner, Judy beat a few of us at one of my least favorite games Wackee Six–my reflexes are too dimmed for it.

Lyle reported a victory in a jury trial this past week over what he described as the best lawyer in the Antelope Valley. Obviously, he’s now second best.
